PICCADILLY GEL cement-based tile adhesive is suitable for all kinds of demanding welding - tile linings.
It consists of cement, quartz sand and special gel additives.
Additional gels act as hydration regulators, storing excess water in them and releasing it at the right time, during mixing.
So the extra addition of water does not affect the final result.
The combination of zero slippage with the long open time (30 minutes) increases the productivity of workshops.
Provides strong adhesion to all common substrates and high resistance to weather conditions (rain-heat-frost).
It is classified as a C2TE adhesive according to EN12004-1:2017 and EN12004-2:2017 standards for internal and external use.
ADVANTAGES / CHARACTERISTICS GEL
Complete wetting of the tile surface.
Avoiding layer thickness reduction under the weight of the tile.
Tolerance to a significant increase in water, increasing fluidity without affecting the quality of workability.
Controlled hydration time, due to GEL technology.
Extended open time compared to conventional C2TE adhesives.
Extension of correction time.
Greater flexibility than conventional C2TE class adhesives.
Greater tolerance to temperature changes.
High thixotropy (slip resistance even on large tiles).
FIELDS OF APPLICATION
Suitable for bonding: absorbent and non-absorbent, small or large ceramic tiles of all types, thin tiles, stone tiles, marble, granite tiles, cotto tiles, klinker tiles, gres tiles, porcellanato, porcellanato smaltato, decorative elements and mosaics on exterior facades of buildings but also on substrates where high welding strengths, flexibility and resistance to climate changes are required.
It is recommended for bonding tiles on: normal substrates but also substrates with high demands such as: gypsum boards, cement mortars, cement plasters, concrete, cellular concrete (YTONG), cement boards, bricks.
It is ideal for gluing tiles in: swimming pools, W.C., baths, changing rooms, saunas, hammams, fountains, dry plasterboard, etc.
It is suitable: for indoor and outdoor use on floors, walls, roofs and balconies.
It is also recommended for laying large tiles, as well as in areas with intense humidity (swimming pools, W.C., baths, changing rooms, saunas, hammams, fountains).
It is suitable for urban, industrial and commercial use, as well as for urban architecture.
APPLICATION
1. In a clean container, add 7.50-7.75 liters of clean water and then gradually empty the contents of a 25 kg bag of PICCADILLY GEL product.
Stir continuously with an electric stirrer, until a homogeneous mortar paste is obtained.
2. Let the resulting mixture mature for 5 minutes and stir it a little again.
The mixture is ready to use for the next 1.5-2.0 hours.
After the preparation of the mixture, the additional addition of water to correct the workability of the mortar is prohibited.
This will lead to a decrease in its strength and an increase in its shrinkage.
3. Spread the glue on the application surface and then comb the layer of glue with a special toothed spatula.
The thickness of the adhesive material must be considered satisfactory for the specific coverage.
4. Within 30 minutes of applying the adhesive, place the tiles in place by pressing them firmly to ensure full contact.
Placing the tiles on the wall can be done starting from the top with the entire tile, without sliding.
Excess glue must be cleaned from the joints before drying.
On external surfaces, we create elastic expansion joints every ≈ 10 m2, while indoors they are applied every ≈ 25 m2.
Adhere to all existing construction joints in the substrate. At the points of contact between the floors and the walls, it is recommended to use suitable silicone mastics.
5. During the application, but also during the next 24 hours, the temperature of the environment and the substrate must be between 5°C and 35°C.
The glue when it is still fresh is cleaned with water.
When it hardens it is removed mechanically
PRECAUTIONS
PICCADILLY GEL contains cement, which reacts with water to produce an alkaline solution.
For this reason, protect the eyes and skin. In case of contact, rinse with plenty of water.
In case of contact with eyes, seek medical advice immediately.
Read the information on the product's label and Safety Data Sheet before use.
Wear suitable protective clothing and gloves.
The Product Safety Data Sheet is available upon request from professionals.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
The paving substrate must be: dry, level, clean of loose and foreign bodies such as e.g. submits plaster stains, paints, oils, etc.
It must be stable, free from shrinkage/distortion stresses.
Before application, absorbent substrates should be moistened with water, while for optimal results, they should be primed with GLX 290 or GLX 292 primer.
In special cases of substrates such as cellular concrete (YTONG), indoors, the use of GLX 292 is deemed necessary.
We always advise, before use on the normal surface, to carry out a test on a corresponding substrate sample.
In the case of paving on the surface of waterproofing materials such as bitumen, liquid organic membranes (asphalt, acrylic, polyurethane, etc.), it is considered necessary to cover them with a special installation substrate.
In the case of facades, the substrate must have a tensile strength of more than 1 N/mm2.
For cladding facades with tiles of a side greater than 30 cm, the necessity of a technical specification by the designer for additional mechanical support should be taken into account.
In the case of tiles with a side of more than 60 cm, it is recommended to add a percentage of LATEX 296 to the water for mixing the glue.
The adhesive must also be applied to the back surface of the tile (back butter).
WARNINGS
PICCADILLY GEL cement-based gel tile adhesive is suitable for underfloor heating as long as the surface preparation conditions stipulated by the EN 1264-4:2009 standard are met.
In the case of plasterboards and cement boards, they must provide rigidity through their proper support in metal elements. For laying tiles of a large surface (>900 cm2), double coating is deemed necessary (back butter).
PICCADILLY GEL cement-based gel tile adhesive, not for use on smooth precast concrete, immature cementitious materials affected by hydraulic shrinkage, plastics and flexible materials.
It is also contraindicated for use in sealants based on organic reactive resins (type RM according to EN 14981:2006) such as epoxy, polyurethane, etc.
In addition, the application on rigid metal or wooden surfaces is only carried out indoors and with the use of a suitable primer.
PICCADILLY GEL cement-based gel tile adhesive should not be used instead of repair mortar to cover discontinuities (cracks) in the substrate.
It must be protected for at least 24 hours from its use from weather conditions such as rain, snow.
